Devoted

As my family has now expanded to include a boy (besides Daddy) for the first time ever, I found myself becoming reminiscent...

August 25, 2007

My sisters and I have a Christmas tradition of watching the movie White Christmas. Most of the time, it involves lots of begging and pleading on my part - they aren't always as enthusiastic as I am. :-) What they don't know, is that I only want to watch it for one reason.

There is a scene in the movie where Rosemary Clooney's character and her sister are performing in a restaurant/lounge/bar. They sing a song called "Sisters" - You've probably heard it before. I love to hear us sing it together. Every time I sing, hear or think of that song, I think of my sisters.

Kadee

Jennie

Nattie

Time for a confession - I've had a hard time accepting that my family will never be the same again. There will be holidays where the six of us won't be together. Kadee and JP will have to divide their time, share themselves, and eventually start their own family traditions. I'm sure Jennie and Chris will soon join the marry-ed club too. Nattie and I? Who knows... :-)

What I realized this weekend was that none of these things will change how my sisters and I love and care for each other. I know there are things about me that probably drive other people nuts My sisters are able to overlook them, immediately forgive me, and gently help me recognize how I need to change. I can trust that my sisters will always keep my secrets, make me laugh when I can't stop crying, and drop everything to come to my rescue. We will always be able to answer a phone, pack a bag, drive in a car or fly on a plane to get to one another. Being married just gives us something else to talk about. :-)

Sisters, sisters
There were never such devoted sisters
Never had to have a chaperone, no sir

I'm here to keep my eye on her

Caring, sharing
Every little thing that we are wearing
When a certain gentleman arrived from Rome

She wore the dress and I stayed home

All kinds of weather we stick together

The same in the rain or sun

Two different faces but in tight places

We think and we act as one, ha-ha

Those who've seen us
Know that not a thing can come between us

Many men have tried to split us up
but no one can

Lord help the mister
who comes between me and my sister

And Lord help the sister
who comes between me and my man

I love you, Lulas.

Tommy Jones and I watched that movie together one night at like 4 in the morning.

I remember thinking how overly sexual it would have been if the movie had been made now.

That has nothing to do with the very sweet post. I'm fond of all the sisters, but really dig #3.

I just noticed your section titled "linky dinks". You are the ONLY person who could pull that off. :)
